The Fractured ABC's Of Christmas - Y

Y
is for YouTube
Ain't it dandy
When you have blogger's block
It sure comes in handy

Yeah, you guessed it. I've got the Christmas blahs, I just can't think. So, here's a little something from YouTube that will hopefully pull me through with a little style and grace.

Sing along and enjoy!

A TOUCH OF GREY
The Grateful Dead

Must be getting early
Clocks are running late
Paint by Number morning sky
Looks so phony

Dawn is breaking everywhere
Light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains, I don't care
'Cause it's all right

I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

I see you've got your fist out
Say your piece and get out
Yes I got the gist of it
But it's all right

Sorry that you feel that way
The only thing there is to say
Every silver lining's got a
Touch of grey

I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

It's a lesson to me
The Ables and the Bakers and the C's
The ABC's we all must face
To try to keep a little grace

It's a lesson to me
The Deltas and the East and the Freeze
The ABC's we all think of
To try to win a little love

I know the rent is in arrears
The dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears
But it's all right

Cow is giving kerosene
Kid can't read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene
But it's all right

I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

The shoe is on the hand it fits
There's really nothing much to it
Whistle through your teeth and spit
'Cause it's all right

Oh well, a touch of grey
Kind of suits you anyway
That was all I had to say
And it's all right

I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

We will get by
We will get by
We will get by
We will survive

  1. Ha! I love it. It's akin to zombies. Yeah baby, that definitely works for me.

  2. When that song came out in the 80s I had a touch of grey. I'm long past that now but I did survive! And I still have all my hair!!!

  3. I always loved that song, so much I actually went to a Dead concert. Never been so stoned in my life and I didn't smoke a thing. I never realized how stupid the lyrics were. Still love the song but, wow. If I knew all it took to write a hit song was to string a few unrelated words together and have them rhyme some times I'd have been a song writer. Of course that's what I do with my blog so I guess the lesson wasn't lost. Hope you feel better soon and I hope you have a great Christmas.

  4. I love the song. I've just never paid attention to the lyrics. Now I know why. What a loser, but he will get by.

  8. Oh, no, not the dreaded BLAHS! I hate BLAHS. I want warm and cactus and tequila.

I think I've solved the blah problem.

  9. I always did enjoy that song, I'm a big fan of the Arista years. Digging through all my 1967 sets lately though.
