Sentimental Journey

I was reminded today that is has been 40 years since my favorite band released their first album. The Blues Blogger sent me an alert this morning regarding a post he had made. When I clicked over, the past 40 years rushed over me.

Okay, I hear you all saying, "What's that got to do with a humor blog?" Well, nothing. Absolutely nothing. But it does has something to do with me, personally.

I could go on-and-on about how I've listened to The Allman Brothers Band for the past 40 years, how many shows I've attended and how many times I got lost in the guitar licks of Duane Allman. He, alone, is responsible for my air-guitar playing.

Instead, I have a playlist of my Top Five, all from the double-live At Fillmore East album circa 1971. For those of you that weren't around during the early years, all I can say is, you missed out.

This one is for you, Roseann.

  1. A classic album from a classic group. Cool. So what have you got against the Kingsmen, anyway? (ho,ho,ho)

  2. Great stuff! My hubs will love this.

  3. Ah... the Allman Brothers! I think I remember some great Allman Brothers concerts... but so much of that era is such a blur!

  4. I've always been a big Allman Brothers fan. I wrote the article originally in the summer of 2008 simply because I was looking at some old vinyl LP's and it was many years since I last listened to their debut LP. When I did, it brought back a flood of memories. But the article was done a bit early and it seems to be more relevant now since it's officially the 40th anniversary of the LP's release...

Yes, Duane's playing still gives me the shivers and he will always remain, not only mine, but one of many people's favorite guitar players... Guess that's why he ranks number 2 on Rolling Stones list of top 100 guitarists of all time.

Thanks so much for the mention on your site. I really should stop by more often, you've done a fantastic job.

    All The Best,

    The Blues Blogger

  5. @ dufus - It's not that I have anything against the Kingsmen, it's that song - ack, ack, buuuickkkkk.

@ Buggys - Oh, good, do share.

@ Cat Lady - I, too, am a bit fuzzy about alot of things during those times; however, when it comes to the good times shared with those while listening to the ABB, I remember EVERYthing.

@ Blues Blogger - Thanks so much for stopping by today. I've always been a fan of your blog and I should be the one stopping by your place more often. Thanks for the article, it has conjured some great memories.

  6. Great God in Heaven, I love blues music, and the Allman brothers know how to do it right. Forty years don't mean shit in this case because this is timeless!

  7. I'm a Allman Brothers fan too. I remember in high school hearing them for free here in Piedmont Park and they even played my Junior Senior prom

  8. @ Mike - Amen!

@ Peach Tart - Wow, lucky!

Thanks for stopping by The Screaming Me-Me!!!
