Quotable: Abbie Hoffman

This is a part of the series of the HBDC Anti-Injustice Campaign.

1. The '60s are gone, dope will never be as cheap, sex never as free, and the rock and roll never as great.

2. Expedience, not justice, is the rule of contemporary American law.

3. Free speech means the right to shout 'theater' in a crowded fire.

4. I believe in compulsory cannibalism. If people were forced to eat what they killed, there would be no more wars.

5. I was probably the only revolutionary referred to as cute.

6. Sacred cows make the tastiest hamburger.

7. The best way to educate oneself is to become part of the revolution.

8. It's embarrassing when you try to overthrow the government and you wind up on the Best Seller's List.

9. All you kiddies remember to lay off the needle drugs, the only dope worth shooting is Richard Nixon.

10.
Wake Up America!

  1. I believe that Hoffman is the source of the quote, "One cannot simultaneously prepare for war and peace." Not positive, but I think that was him.

    I really liked numbers 3 and 4.

  3. David Crosbie said if you remember the 60s you weren't there, man. So, thanks for reminding me.

    P.S. Don't trust anyone over 70.

  4. @ Lee - Power to the people!

@ Don - That's a great quote, however it was Albert Einstein who said it.

@ Quirky - See, something for everyone - even zombies.

@ Venom - Tell me, but I still live as if it's 1969. Guess I'm stuck in a time warp.

@ dufus - Hey, no problem.

  5. Wow, I knew Hoffman was great in "Tootsie," but I had no idea he was also politically savvy. Thanks for the enlightenment!

  8. I don't know if this means that I'm an incredibly sick individual, but my favorite is the cannibalism one, #4. And if that DOESN'T mean that I'm an incredibly sick individual then how DO you explain me?

  9. Wow - shades of the past! I'm a child of the 60's and still have some hippie items as "souvenirs" - most of all tho, is the "thinking". Once a hippie, always a hippie. My Peace t-shirt is still my fav!

  12. @ Joel - Unfortunately, I am very limited to the amount of space to go into what is wrong with you here. Best of luck!

@ suZen - Much like the sentiments of Mr. Hoffman, our hippie things have really never gone out of style.

@ Crabby Blogging Lady - LOL! Well, with the exception of a mouse in the trap.

@ Martinis or Diaper Genies - You are not alone, my friend, you are not alone.
