The Church Of The Sub-Genius

The Church of the Sub-Genius is a mutant offshoot of Discordianism launched in 1981 as a spoof of fundamentalist Christianity led by the 'Reverend' Ivan Stang, a brilliant satirist with a gift for promotion. Popular among hackers as a rich source of bizarre imagery and references such as "Bob Dobbs" the divine drilling-equipment salesman, the Benevolent Space Xists, and the Stark Fist of Removal. Much Sub-Genius theory is concerned with the acquisition of the mystical substance or quality of 'slack'.

The essence of 'slack' it a state of laziness, the absence of work or thought. Or, as it has been described, to be a divine state of infinite mental inactivity, right up there with hibernation, or the concept of nirvana. In the church of the sub-geniustrue 'slack' is the ultimate goal and surpasses any pleasure of the flesh or mind. "Praise Bob!"

  1. I try to aim for this state of zombie like slaker-dom every day. Of course one must disguise it while at work with the look of dilligence and determination.

  3. Funny as heck, Me-Me. You have a gift for finding the weird and outrageous. I've been a loyal member of Ivan's Church of the Sub-Genius for most of my life and Bob Dobbs hasn't let me down yet. Heh heh.

SLACK IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL of every Bob-lovin' member. Amen and pass me the nirvana.

Back in the mid 90's, actually, when I was doing the underground newspaper version of my blog, I would corresponded with Ivan Stang and his many minions. He had an underground newspaper, too. We would trade our publications with each other. He was/is very cool and very funny. He's the source when I write the term "normals" in my posts or comments.

Anyway, we lost touch when I moved and stopped doing the underground newspaper thing.

  4. Actually that is exactly what Jesus preached, but nobody talks about that part of his teachings.
