Gone Fishing

Ahhh, it's that time of year again. Time to head to Worms-R-Us, update your gear and head to the lake. My dad had me (and my younger sisters) on the lake fishing at a very young age. We learned rig our poles, bait our own hooks, land 'em, clean 'em and fry 'em up before we were ever given the opportunity to mow the lawn. These are the most memorable days of my childhood - fishing the lakes and rivers of south Arkansas with my dad. And, this is a tradition that we pass from generation-to-generation. My son, as a young boy, was also bit by the fishing bug.

There was a time when, if I wasn't fishing, I was watching fishing shows on television. Bill Dance was a popular sportsman host in our area, as seen in the video below. Some of these scenes are hilarious and remind me of all the good times I've had fishing. Do yourself a favor, get off your butt and go fishing. It gives you time to yourself in the great outdoors, whether you catch anything or not, you'll be glad you did.

Hey, the truck is pulling out - I gotta go!

  1. Hysterical! And (minus the accent) you'd think you were with my husband (Mr. Corporate Exec) up at our lake house. He's done so many hysterical things all in the name of "trying" to fish I should have made videos! I crack up just thinking about it - throwing the whole pole in while doing a demo for our son, forgetting to put the drain plug in the boat, hanging up the spare wheel on the trailer on a tree in the driveway - you cannot believe what entertainment he is! I will begin a chronicle this summer - haha.

  2. I used to go fishing in Florida with my Granpap (yep, that's what we called him). I remember being 8 years old sitting in one end of a metal boat with 300+ pound Granpap in the other end (picture a buoyant teeter-totter) on Lake Dot in a lightning storm. Amazing I wasn't electrocuted.

    Ah, memories.

As an aside, my verification code for this post is "definga". I guess as in, "that guy cut me off, so I gave him definga." Just felt like I needed to share that, sorry.

  3. We live quite close to a nuclear power plant, so fishing could be both relaxing and surprising. Revenge of the four-headed Carp.

  4. Whenever I go to the lake, fish march to the truck in a single file line.

They know putting up a fight with me is useless.

  5. I went fishing once. All I remember is eating KFC and watching my brother reel in a 17 lbs. bass that eventually made its way onto our bedroom wall.

  6. I love to fresh water fish too! For me, I love to crappie fish (and the eating in great too). Lake of the Ozarks is where we always went but haven't been fishing in probably 4 years - you make me hungry to do go fishing this summer.

  9. I love to fish, too. Haven't been to my sister's lake this year yet. It's always chock full of bass and catfish. It's cool to know you're a fishing freak, too.
