Although it's usually promoted as a Halloween movie, regardless of the time of year, this is absolutely one of my favorite films. This horror musical premiered in 1975 and once had a cult following where 10's of thousands would flock to their local theaters for the midnight showing of this legendary film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Meatloaf, this film is best viewed in the company of a full theater. Rocky Horror fans attend in the costume of their favorite character and/or will bring props to participate in the various scenes. I love watching the devotees of this movie even more than I do watching the screen. Talk about wacky!
Make The Rocky Horror Picture Show a "must see" this Halloween season. Oh, and don't forget to take a bag of rice!
I've taken my kids to see this this show several times. All dressed up and tp in hand!It really is a classic.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I can't believe how young Tim Curry looks... guess he WAS young back then. Although I've seen it, I've never had the pleasure of seeing it at midnight... in costume.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a jump to the left... One of my favourite films, if only for a young Susan Sarondon. Great pick, Me-Me.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that movie and watch it EVERY time it comes on cable!!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I first saw RH in the mid-seventies at a local theater. Not much of a crowd. I saw it again years later and the place was packed with people. Great Halloween fun for sure.
ReplyDeletemy favorite character is meatloaf.
ReplyDeletemmm.... meatloaf....
The audiences for that movie scared the hell out of me. The one time I saw it in a theater the audience was enraptured by the film and they were very obediently, as if in a trance, doing all of the various things that audiences were supposed to do with the props they brought.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm easily frightened, but I found that terrifying. I was convinced that if someone altered the film to have one of the characters tell the audience to strangle to death the person sitting next to them, half of the audience would do it. The only reason the other half wouldn't do it is because they were the weaker ones and would have died of strangulation before they got to strangle someone else.
Love it! Susan Sarandon is definitely one of my favorite artists.
ReplyDeleteSusan Sarandon is so young in this, too. I always wanted to see it at a movie theater. Have only seen it at home on DVD.
ReplyDelete@ Buggys - Very cool! This classic is truly in a category of its own.
ReplyDelete@ CarLadyLarew - You must, you must! It is soooo much fun.
@ dufus - ...and then a step to the right. Wouldn't you you take a Susan Saradon at any age? LOL!
@ Lee - Me too! There's something about Tim Curry in this film that is so hypnotizing.
@ Don - Ditto. I saw it before it became the "thing to do" on a Friday or Saturday night. Once the theaters filled, it was addicting.
@ Nooter - Yes, I imagine Meatloaf would be your favorite. Ask you human to play this one for you, I'm sure you'll howl with delight.
@ Joel - You are hilarious! I know what you mean though, there is always "that look" the participants' eyes that is unmistakably daunting.
@ myundiary - I agree. I am a real fan of most of her starring roles. She has truly perfected her craft as an actress.
@ kyslp - If you have the opportunity, try to get to a theater - the experience is unforgettable.
I love this time of year. We have a local Theater that does the Rocky Horror show. As soon as they advertise it all the shows get sold out. I hope I catch it this year.
ReplyDelete@ Lyn - Camp out for tickets if you have to, it will be well worth the effort. Have fun!
ReplyDeletethanks for the reminder . . . :-)

@ .ero - I'm so glad to be back, I missed all my friends in the blogoshere. And, thank you for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite line, uttered by Tim Curry, as I recall: "I will belt you about the mouth, and mouth you about the belt." Rude, but funny.
ReplyDeleteThis would have to be one of wifey's most favourite films evahhh! She knows all the words, she does, and it scares me just a little...
ReplyDelete@ MikeWJ - Yes, you recall correctly. There are so many classic lines in this movie.
ReplyDelete@ Tony - HELLO! Great to see you here again. Good for her, I love this movie too.
We used to go to the midnight showing all the time! Armed with water gun, toast and rice(-: loved it!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I lived through the 80's without seeing this. Dang it all!
ReplyDeleteLove Rocky Horror. Watch it every time it is on TV and know the dances too. Yup, I'm a stud.
